ArtSpot Productions celebrates its
Tenth Anniversary with Artistic Ancestry, an international
festival of contemporary theater featuring some of the finest and most influential living practitioners of the
bold, physically-based style of theater that you've seen in ArtSpot works over the years.
Often called Third Theater and rarely seen in America, this
style tends to be non-linear and often requires from the performer a commitment to a long-term rehearsal/creative
process and intense physical training in the formation of
new works.
In addition to restagings of past
ArtSpot productions, the festival will include first-ever New
Orleans appearances by Denmark's Odin
Teatret ("Salt"), Wales'
Jill Greenhalgh ("Water[war]s"), and the North
American Cultural Laboratory /
Cleveland Public Theatre /
Number
Eleven Theatre collaboration "The Confessions
of Punch & Judy" (U.S./Canada).
We are also delighted to present:
- Serbia's Dah
Teatar, in their first performances in New Orleans since 2002,
with Dancing With Darkness and the American premiere of their
brand new work, The Story of Tea, inspired by Chekhov's "Three
Sisters"
- Alternate
ROOTS' UPROOTED: The Katrina Project
- The New Orleans premiere of Stanley (2006), the lastest
creation from Lisa D'Amour, the writer and director of
Nita
& Zita
- and more, including work demonstrations, panel discussions,
workshops led by Odin, Dah, NACL, Ker Wells,
and Michael
Rohd, and an opportunity to help create and perform the tenth
and final manifestation of Water[war]s.
Odin Teatret guest artist master classes and
demonstrations at Tulane
University are co-sponsored by the Tulane University Department
of Theatre and Dance. All other events are at the Contemporary Arts Center.
